A Table Between Worlds: What Happens at a Dinner with Spirit
In short: A Dinner with Spirit is a warm gathering around a shared table where we gather, we eat, and I open to the messages that come through from loved ones who have crossed. It is part supper, part remembrance, part reading. Here is what the afternoon is really like, and why a table is such a sacred place to do this.
Of all the ways I work, this is one of the tenderest. There is something about a table, candles lit, a place set, people leaning in, that softens everyone at once and makes room for what usually stays unspoken.
Why a table
Long before anyone called it mediumship, families kept a seat at the table for the ones who were gone. A plate left out. A chair no one filled. A name said before the meal. In many cultures, the table is where the living and the departed meet, because a table is where we are most ourselves. We tell the truth at a table. We laugh and we cry at a table. We remember who is missing most sharply at a table.
So a Dinner with Spirit is not a performance on a stage. It is that old, human instinct made intentional: we sit down together, we leave room for those who have crossed, and we let them join us.
What the afternoon is actually like
We gather around the table somewhere warm, and we begin the way any good dinner begins, with ease and a little laughter. The point is not solemnity. The point is connection.
Then, as the meal settles, I open to spirit and share what comes through. A name, a memory, a turn of phrase only one person at the table would recognize, a message someone has been quietly waiting for. I never know in advance who will come forward or what they will say, and I never promise a specific person will. I simply open the door and share honestly what I receive, with care, in a room where no one is rushed.
Sometimes the message meant for you arrives through the person sitting beside you, and finds its way home to you anyway.
That is part of the magic of doing this together rather than alone.
Who comes to a gathering like this
People arrive for all sorts of reasons. Some are deep in grief and longing for a sign. Some are simply curious. Some come to feel close to a parent, a partner, a child, or a friend, especially as the holidays begin and the missing grows louder. You do not need any experience, and you do not need to believe anything in particular. You only need to come with an open heart.
And you do not have to arrive composed. A table like this can hold your tears as easily as your laughter. If you have been carrying someone, this is a gentle place to set that weight down for an afternoon. If the idea of signs and messages is new to you, I wrote about the quieter, everyday version of it in Signs From a Loved One in Spirit, and about why this kind of knowing is open to everyone in Can Anyone Learn Divination.
