When Death Becomes Rebirth: October's Spiritual Magic and Mediumship
October is the season when the veil feels thin, and it carries a gentle truth, endings and new beginnings are the same doorway. Here is what that means, what a mediumship reading is really like, and how connection with those we love continues.

October and the thin veil
October has always felt sacred to me. The leaves let go. The light softens. Many people, sensitive or not, begin to feel something in the air, a nearness, a quiet sense that those we love are not as far away as we thought. This is the season of the thin veil, and it has so much to teach us about mediumship, about grief, and about the way life continues in a different form.
Endings and beginnings are the same doorway
We are taught to fear endings. Yet October quietly offers another view. The tree does not mourn its leaves. It releases them, and in that release it prepares for new life. The ending and the beginning are the same moment, simply seen from two sides. The cycle is gentle, natural, and wise, and it reminds us that nothing real is lost, it only changes.
Death, in the way I have come to understand it after more than thirty years of spiritual work, is like that. It is not a wall. It is a doorway. The love does not end. The connection does not end. What changes is the form, and our way of relating to those we love. October makes that doorway feel closer, and for many people, that is when the call to mediumship becomes stronger.

Nature shows us that letting go and beginning again often happen in the same breath.
How mediumship brings comfort in times of grief
When someone comes to me grieving, they are often carrying a heavy question, are they okay, and are they still with me. Grief can feel like a weight on the chest, a fog in the mind, or a quiet ache that never seems to lift. There is no right way to grieve, and there is no timeline. Your love writes its own rhythm, and that is completely all right.
A mediumship reading is a gentle place to bring those questions. I listen for what Spirit offers, and I share what comes through, exactly as it comes, with honesty and care. I do not fabricate a message to fill a silence, and I do not speak in ways that frighten. Spirit is not here to scare you. Spirit is here to support, to reassure, and to remind you that love continues far beyond the physical body.
Most people leave a reading lighter. Not because their grief is gone, grief is a natural part of love, but because they feel, sometimes for the first time, that the bond is still there. They sense that the doorway between worlds is more like a thin curtain than a locked door. That understanding does not erase the pain, yet it can soften the edges and bring real comfort to a very human heart.
Mediumship is one doorway among many in my work. Another is the Medical Intuitive session , where we turn toward your own body and energy and listen for what your system needs in order to heal. The doorway changes, yet the purpose never does, to help you feel connected and whole again in body, mind, and spirit.
A simple practice for the season
You do not need a reading to honor someone you love this month. You can begin right where you are, with a simple practice that meets you in your own home. Let this be gentle, there is no performance here, only connection and sincerity.
Choose a quiet moment and a place that feels safe, perhaps a small table, a bedside, or a favorite chair near a window.
Light a candle with care, and as the flame rises, say their name out loud. Allow yourself to feel whatever you feel, there is no right or wrong here.
Talk to them the way you always did. Tell them what you have been carrying. Share a memory. Thank them for something specific they gave you, a quality, a lesson, a moment of kindness.
Sit for a few breaths and simply notice. You may feel a warmth, a calm, a subtle sense of being held, or you may simply feel your own breath. All of this is connection. None of it is wrong.
This practice pairs beautifully with the gratitude we lean into as the year turns. If you would like a simple way to invite more gratitude into your days, you may enjoy the reflection in my November gratitude guide . Together, remembrance and gratitude create a soft, steady ground beneath your feet.

Simple rituals like lighting a candle can open a quiet space for real connection.
A gentle note on grief and wellbeing
If grief is heavy for you right now, please be tender with yourself. There is no need to rush your healing, and there is no prize for doing it alone. Spiritual work can support you beautifully, yet it is not a substitute for the care of a doctor, therapist, or counselor. It is completely all right to lean on many forms of support at once. Your heart is worth that care.
This body, mind, and spirit view of life and death sits within a long, thoughtful tradition. Here in Virginia Beach, that tradition has been explored for decades at Edgar Cayce's A.R.E. , where I have the privilege of teaching. It is a place where questions about the soul, the afterlife, and healing are welcomed with open hearts and open minds.
An invitation to connect
If your heart is longing to reconnect with someone you love, you do not have to carry that longing alone. A mediumship reading can offer a safe, grounded space to listen together for the messages and reassurance that are meant for you. We move at your pace, and your wellbeing is always at the center of our time.
💡 Gentle Invitation: When you feel ready, you can book a mediumship reading in Virginia Beach or online, and you can explore upcoming gatherings on the events calendar . We will listen together, gently, for what your heart already knows.
May this October remind you that love, like the season, only ever changes form. The doorway between worlds may feel thin right now, yet it is held in something strong and steady, a love that does not end. You are part of that love, and you are not alone in it.
With love,
Nancy
